Ted Lindstrom, Associate

Practice: Mr. Ted Lindstrom specializes in labor, employment, and education law. As a group legal services provider for the California Teachers Association, Mr. Lindstrom regularly represents public school teachers and counselors in a variety of employment-related matters such as tenure claims, wage/salary claims, disciplinary actions, classification issues, dismissal from employment, layoff proceedings, and unlawful discrimination claims. Mr. Lindstrom has also represented teachers and local CTA chapters before the Public Employment Relations Board.

In addition to his work for active CTA members, Mr. Lindstrom also represents retired teachers in disputes with the California State Teachers Retirement System. He is well-versed in the STRS law and has counseled a number of retirees regarding their legal rights.

In addition to his work on behalf of CTA and its members, Mr. Lindstrom represents and advises both public and private sector employees in labor and employment related matters.

Education: Mr. Lindstrom obtained his BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1994 and his JD from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2005.

While in law school, Mr. Lindstrom became a member of the Traynor Honor Society and also served as a student teaching assistant in the International Advocacy Program during the 2004-05 school year. Mr. Lindstrom was awarded the Witkin Award in Negotiations & Settlement, and was on the International Advocacy Moot Court Honors Board. He earned honors in Trial Advocacy, was awarded the Jeffrey K. Poilé Civil Rights Scholarship, the Mark and Mona Roberts Employment Law Scholarship, and was President of the Lambda Law Students Association from 2003-2005.

Mr. Lindstrom is admitted to practice in all California state courts and is also admitted to the U.S. District Court – Eastern District of California.

Lecturer/Speaker: Mr. Lindstrom has conducted various training seminars for CTA members and was also a featured speaker at a CTA Retiree Conference in January 2011.

Legal Memberships: Mr. Lindstrom is a member of the State Bar of California, the Sacramento County Bar Association, and Sacramento Lawyers for the Equality of Gays & Lesbians.

Notable Cases:
Plumas Lake Elementary School Dist. V. Respondent (2011) OAH Case No. 2011031012.: Successfully defended teacher and upheld his right not to be laid off for reasons other than declining enrollment or elimination of particular kinds of services.

Willows Unified School Dist. v. Various Respondents, (2010) OAH Case No. 2010031120: Successfully defended teachers and upheld their right not to be laid off for holding only a CLAD credential, authorizing instruction of English Language Learners, and not a BCLAD credential, authorizing bilingual education.

Community Service and Activities: Mr. Lindstrom is an active member of both the Sacramento County and Yolo County SPCA and is actively involved in animal welfare issues. In addition, he serves as a judge for the UC Davis Asylum and Refugee Law Competition.
